Stockton2020 is a youth-based civic advocacy group dedicated to
empower youth to envision and promote a safer, healthier, and more
prosperous community.
Goals
1. To deliver opportunities empowering youth to pursue productive lifestyles
2. To create multimedia campaigns promoting education and entrepreneurship
3. Partner with like-minded organizations to advance our goals
What do we want Stockton to be known for?
We are proud of Stockton’s heritage and diversity. We want Stockton to
be known as a vibrant, safe and smart city.
We want Stockton to be known by residents and visitors alike for a
great quality of life.
Stockton should be known as a city of literacy, of life-long learners,
of innovation, of creativity.
In the 21st century knowledge economy, where success depends on our
educational systems, Stockton should be known for the best schools and
libraries in the West - as we once were.
We should be known as a city parents move to so they can secure a
bright future for their kids, a city that nurtures and retains its
best and brightest, a city that CEOs know as a highly competitive pool
of talent and skills to build their enterprises.
Stockton should be known as a city of savvy high school and college
graduates, of entrepreneurs, of engaged and empowered citizens.
Stockton should be known as a city of world-class public buildings,
spaces and architecture — a destination rather than a drive-by.
To pursue that vision of our city, Stockton2020 aims to engage youth
in civic affairs to help craft solutions.
What are we doing?
In the summer of 2007, Stockton2020 launched The Libraries Change Lives Campaign, the nation’s first youth-based library advocacy movement aiming to equip the people of Stockton and San Joaquin County to compete successfully in the 21st century global economy with a world-class state-of-the-art public library system.
Stockton2020 involves young people in civic advocacy through the
latest multimedia tools and good, old-fashioned grassroots actions.
Stockton2020’s growing cadre of dedicated members are excited about
making a difference in their community and facilitating a new era of
youth activism. Stockton2020 aims to not only confront the issues of
today but to prepare our city for the challenges of tomorrow.
